Bombas
A store with the thresholds and gifting built, but the attach motion missing. On mobile a €57 sandal sits €3 short of free shipping with nothing to add: the highest-intent moment in the funnel, monetised by nothing. The second sale is being left on the table.
We audited Bombas the way money moves through it: on a phone, from the home grid to the checkout button. The good news for AOV is that the foundations exist: a €60 free-ship threshold, multi-pack savings on the grid, and a "Make It A Gift?" toggle in the cart drawer. The bad news is that none of it compounds. The pack-savings logic dies on the collection thumbnails, the PDP carries no cross-sell, and the cart tells a shopper they're €3 from free shipping while offering nothing to add. We've mapped the second-sale gaps page by page, every one tied to where the order value actually grows.
Home page

A sticky navy bar states "Free Shipping to the EU on Orders €60+". Below it sit four category pills (Bralettes & Underwear, Socks, Slippers & Shoes, T-Shirts) and the "HELLOOO, SUMMER" hero with Shop Women and Shop Men CTAs.
Fix: That €60 line is a built-in AOV lever the store states once and never works. With a €57 hero PDP, nearly every single-item shopper lands €3 under it, exactly the gap an attach is designed to close, if the threshold were treated as a goal instead of a banner (we wire that in the cart sections).

The mission strip "ONE PURCHASED ONE DONATED — We donate on your behalf in all 50 states" sits straight under the hero, ahead of any product. The first shoppable card (Women's Friday Sandal, €57) follows it.
Fix: The donation story takes prime real estate while the first revenue-generating card waits below. Lifting one best-seller (or a "Shop Best Sellers" tap) above the mission strip shortens the path to a buy box, and a faster path to a first item is a faster path to the second.

The home grid already sells quantity value: "Lightweight No Show Sock 4-Pack €62 €68 / 8% Pack Savings", "Dinner Party Ankle Sock 4-Pack €62 €68 / 8% Pack Savings", "Run Ankle Socks €21 / Save 10% on 4+", "Dress Calf Socks €21 / Save 10% on 4+". The treatment is split, with some cards on pack savings and others on a per-unit "Save 10% on 4+".
Fix: This pack-savings message is one of Bombas's sharpest AOV levers, and it lives only on thumbnails: it never reaches the PDP buy box or the cart, and the framing is inconsistent. A Baseline pass codifies one value ladder (single → pack → bigger pack) and carries it through the PDP and cart so the quantity incentive works the whole funnel, not just the grid.
Product page

The mobile Friday Sandal buy box carries the title, colour swatches, the 5–11 size grid with US conversions, a Size Guide link and a navy Add to Bag, and no price at all. The €57 surfaces only on the home grid and inside the cart, never on the page where the decision happens.
Fix: Surface the €57 above the size grid, in reach of the thumb, before Add to Bag. A buyer forced to add to bag just to discover the cost is a buyer who bounces, and every order lost upstream is an order no upsell ever gets to grow.

A floating white "Get 20% Off ✕" pill overlaps the "Size: 5" label and the Size Guide link, landing right on the tap target a shopper uses to choose their size.
Fix: Relocate the offer below the announce bar or above the gallery. Colliding a discount with the size step costs conversions at the exact moment we need clean, and a thinner order base shrinks the pool every cross-sell multiplies against.

Nowhere on the mobile PDP is there a star rating, a review count or a review block. Social proof amounts to one editorial line ("Thanks Bombas, for helping my feet feel like they're on vacation." — Christina L.) tucked into an orange brand panel well down the page.
Fix: An aggregate rating under the title is the cheapest trust lift on mobile, and trust is what unlocks a bigger basket. Place the rating and count in the buy box and a reviews block before the footer: a buyer who believes the product is the buyer who says yes to the attach.

Past the buy box the PDP becomes a long single-column editorial run: "A SUMMER FLING, FOR YOUR FEET", "Cushy Support", "Waterproof Design", "Fits Like a Glove", a testimonial panel, "Your Purchase Powers Real Impact", email capture, footer. Add to Bag appears once near the top and never returns as a sticky bar.
Fix: A buyer 9,000px deep in the story has no way to act without scrolling back up. A Baseline rebuild tightens the page and pins a sticky Add to Bag bar (price, size, colour) to the bottom, keeping the buy action (and any bump riding on it) reachable at every scroll depth.

From buy box through editorial, donation block, email capture and footer, the sandal PDP runs with no "Complete the Look", no "Frequently Bought Together" and no recommended products, even while the imagery repeatedly styles the sandal worn with socks.
Fix: The page photographs the sandal with crew socks yet never offers those socks for sale beside it. We'd add a "Complete the Look" attach (sock + sandal) under the buy box, turning the styling story into an order-builder, the natural mobile cross-sell that the imagery has already pre-sold.

The sandal is a single unit on a single quantity, while Bombas socks carry explicit multi-pack savings (4-Pack €62 €68, "Save 10% on 4+"). Footwear has no second-pair or two-colour bundle and no pack-style incentive at all.
Fix: We'd run a "buy a 2nd pair" or two-colour bundle on footwear (Fog Harbor plus a Core colour at a small saving) so single-unit footwear earns the same units-per-order lift the sock multi-packs already deliver, growing basket value without cutting deep into price.
Cart drawer

The "Shopping Bag" drawer runs a free-ship reward bar ("You're €3 away from free EU shipping", threshold €60), the line item (Friday Sandal, Fog Harbor / 5, €57, qty stepper), a "Make It A Gift?" option, and a "Checkout - €57" button with View Bag.
Fix: The reward bar exists but it's passive: no progress visual, no copy spelling out that a single pair of socks clears €3. A progress bar plus "Add any pair of socks to unlock free shipping" converts a static message into a spend trigger, which is the first step to a bigger order.
Checkout is one tap, total on the button, View Bag underneath. The "Make It A Gift?" toggle is the only add-on path the drawer offers.
Fix: Frictionless is good for completion, but a lone forward action and a gift toggle give the shopper no reason to grow the order. The €3 gap is precisely where a one-tap attach belongs, ahead of the checkout button, which is where the next two sections do the heavy lifting.
The drawer reads "You're €3 away from free EU shipping" on a single €57 sandal, but holds no cross-sell, no "you may also like" and no recommended add-on, just the "Make It A Gift?" toggle. Threshold and gifting are present; attach is absent.
Fix: This is the highest-intent moment in the entire funnel and the shopper is told they're €3 short with nothing to add. We'd surface one or two best-selling sock pairs (most are €21) above "Checkout - €57": one tap clears the gap and lifts AOV. This single placement is the biggest second-sale win on the store.
With the threshold at €60 and the cart at €57, the €3 gap is far below the cheapest sock pack (€21 for Run/Dress, €62 for the 4-packs), so any single attach overshoots the threshold and grows the order well past it.
Fix: We'd frame the attach as "unlock free EU shipping AND save": one €21 pair clears the €3 and carries the order to roughly €78, and pairing it with the existing "Save 10% on 4+" pack incentive makes the threshold nudge and the bundle reinforce one another. Validate against your margins: lead with free shipping unlocked rather than stacking a discount, so the AOV lift isn't eroded.

What we'd fix
- 1Put the €57 price and an aggregate star rating into the mobile buy box above the size grid, and pin a sticky Add to Bag bar so the buy action stays reachable through the full scroll: a clearer, more trusted page lifts every downstream attach.
- 2Lift the floating "Get 20% Off" pill off the size selector so it stops colliding with the size and Size-Guide tap targets at the conversion-critical step.
- 3Codify the multi-pack value ladder (single → pack → bigger pack) and run the pack-savings message from the home grid through the PDP buy box and the cart, so the quantity incentive works the whole funnel.
- 1Drop a one-tap cross-sell into the cart drawer at the "You're €3 away from free EU shipping" moment: a best-selling sock pair above "Checkout - €57" clears the threshold and lifts AOV (lead with free shipping unlocked, not an added discount, to protect margin).
- 2Wire a "Complete the Look" sock + sandal attach under the PDP buy box, turning the editorial styling imagery into a shoppable second sale.
- 3Add a footwear quantity or bundle incentive (a 2nd pair or two-colour Friday Sandal bundle) so single-unit footwear gets the units-per-order lift the sock multi-packs already prove out.
